Something I love that I have learned about this past year, is that He is continually rebuilding, remodeling, and redecorating my selfish, sinful, heart.
Here are two versions of a few of my favorite verses. I love how both of them are worded…
"“Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. Your filth will be washed away, and you will no longer worship idols. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations." Ezekiel 36:25-27 NLT
"I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws." Ezekiel 36:25-27 NIV
My favorite part, “I will remove from you a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.” I am learning that this is such a great process, even though I mess it up about a million times a day. This is a promise from God, but just like any other gift we are given, we have to choose to receive it. The transformation will happen, if you allow it. Removing the stone from our hearts, is as painful as it sounds, but the end result is totally worth it. “I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean.” That thought absolutely blows my mind every time, and I’m caught up in utter awe of who He is, and I catch the tiniest glimpse of how unconditional His love is.
So my “new years resolution” is this. To pray expectantly that my heart of stone will be transformed into a heart of flesh. That I will recover the new spirit, and that I will remember that I have been washed clean, and not believe the lies that my past controls my present, or future. My new heart, directed by the Spirit living in me, will allow me to follow His will, His plan, and His purpose.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." James 1:5-6
My God is so good!!! :D
